PERSONAL SAFETY EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

Children with different abilities are often particularly vulnerable to abuse. Rural Response for Healthy Children has recognized this fact and is working to change that reality for children with different abilities in Huron County.

Marg Cressman, S.N.A.P. and his friends have moved to the Rural Response for Healthy Children office in Clinton. For information about the S.N.A.P. program contact Marg Cressman at 519-482-8777, ext 301.

The  S.N.A.P. program works directly with parents, caregivers and teachers to develop individualized personal safety plans for young children with different abilities.

Over the years, we have collected a variety of resources that are available for lending. The facilitator has also noticed a lack of suitable, inclusive resources for her work, so she developed a series of books starring the one and only SNAP to teach children basic concepts about love, friendship, privacy, touch, disclosure, friendship, differences.

Most recently we have added a coloring book, a video, and a board game to the collection! Children, parents, caregivers and teachers all love using these resources!

"No community has ever been built on the needs and problems of its people. It has always been built on their gifts and capacities and the use of assets that are there."
McConnell Foundation, John McKnight
