Parent/caregiver support and education focuses on providing services to families living in rural communities and may be experiencing a change in living arrangements, family illness, inadequate housing, insecure employment and food insecurity or being teenage parents, coping with situations of violence/neglect and addictions. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend our parenting groups or connect with the Parent Support & Education team for one-to-one visits in the community where they live. Self-referrals are welcome by calling the office. Agency referrals welcome too.
Child support and education focuses on all children living in Huron rural communities with a particular service niche for children from newborn through completion of elementary school. In-school programming increases capacity of students’ social skills, including building friendships, inclusiveness, communication and conflict resolution. Our most widely known programs are the summer Kinderoo for school readiness program and Kids On The Block (KOB). KOB is a sexual abuse prevention presentation with puppets to Grade 3 and 4 classes and classroom follow-up with additional resources available to teachers and parents. Teachers and parents are encouraged to contact the Child Support & Education team to learn more about programming and book classroom dates.
Rural Response for Healthy Children staff collaborate with many colleagues at various agencies and service providers in Huron, including; Ontario Early Years, Huron Women’s Shelter & Second Stage Housing, Huron Perth Children’s Aid Society, Choices for Change, Huron Respite Network, Huron County Health Unit, Avon Maitland District School Board and Huron Perth & District Catholic School Board.
