Playgroups
T.H.E. BUS travels to specific locations in Huron County
on a rotating bi-weekly schedule and provides playgroups
for children, parents and caregivers.
Playgroups allow opportunities:
For Children...
Free Play ~ enhancing child development skills through
items such as building toys, puzzles, costumes, puppets,
interactive toys and gross motor activities (such as
climbing, crawling, jumping).
Crafts ~ a time for exploration of materials and
building fine motor skills (such as cutting and eye-hand
co-ordination activities like lacing).
Routines ~ learning the basic abilities to transition
from one activity to the next.
Social/Relationship ~ an opportunity for children
beginning to interact with others through play in a
supportive environment.
Songs and Games ~ fun opportunities to develop many
early skills such as: co-operation/developing the
ability to listen, confidence and self
esteem/interacting with others, answering questions and
providing input, patience/waiting your turn,
perseverance and memory building
For Adults…
Social ~ a chance to interact and share with other
parents and caregivers in an informal setting.
Resources ~ learning more about your community and the
opportunities available for families.
Education ~ a chance to learn more about emergent
curriculum, skill development and school readiness in an
atmosphere based on early childhood education.
Parenting ~ supportive professional staff that can
answer questions and/or provide you with, or help you to
link with, resources about child development and
behaviour, parenting skills and many aspects of family
life.
