SELF REGULATION
According to Canadian, Dr. Stuart Shanker, self-regulation is about understanding and dealing with stress. It is important to consider how we respond to stress and evaluate what causes immediate stress, as well as underlying factors that are unique to each person.
Parents/caregivers play a very important role in teaching, modeling and supporting their children to name feelings, understand that all feelings are normal and find healthy ways of coping with stress.
Kristi Michel leads our work in self-regulation for parents/caregivers, young children and youth. If you would like to learn more or help in using the resources at home, please contact Kristi by calling 226-699-0707 ext 105 or by email.
We all experience stress! During the pandemic, we collaborated with Huron-Perth Centre and Avon Maitland District School Board to produce two videos to help build understanding about stress and resilience. The videos are great tools to watch with young children to kick-start the conversation at home about stress.
