Going to Kindergarten

Preparing to begin elementary school for the first time is exciting! It is also a great opportunity for children and parents, caregivers, and family members to learn together. We recognize that parents/caregivers are the best teachers of their children. Our goal is to provide Huron and Perth County parents/caregivers with tools and resources to engage their children in preparing together for their education.

Kinderoo Activity Backpacks

Kinderoo Activity Backpacks are available for borrowing from Huron County Library branches. Ten themed backpacks, developed by Rural Response for Healthy Children, provide parents with activities, books, toys and games they can use to engage children at home.

The backpack themes are:

  • Healthy lunches & snacks

  • Literacy

  • Numeracy

  • Gross motor

  • Fine motor

  • Social & emotional learning

  • Creativity & imagination

  • Hygiene & routines

  • Saving money for post-   secondary education

  • Parental preparation and self-care

Pinterest Activity Boards

To accompany the themed backpacks, we created Pinterest Boards dedicated to more activities parents, caregivers and grandparents can use to engage children to build skills and knowledge for school success.
